Nerds "Rainbow Dungeons & Dragons"

Ferrara Pan Candy

I’m going to use this review to talk about candy promotions that don’t make any sense to me. The reason I’m going to use this time to talk about that is because these are nothing more than a box of rainbow Nerds. There’s nothing different about this candy or anything that makes it feel like it belongs in a Dungeons & Dragons world other than the package and some kind of contest. If you want to know how I felt about the candy, you can just read my already posted Nerds “Rainbow” review.

Packaging and contest, while I don’t hate this part of the candy world, I don’t like it when it’s the only thing on offer. I’m always disappointed to see a box of candy that has a fun themed package with a theme that I enjoy, only to open the box to find out it’s just regular candy. While I don’t dislike contests with my candies, it’s really the least important part of a candy for me. I will never buy a candy simply because of a contest. I imagine that decorating a box and offering free prizes sells candy, or you wouldn’t see to many treats doing it so often. I just feel like candy companies could do more.

I feel like candy companies could also decorate the candy, as well as the package to make the whole experience more fun. With these Nerds they could have changed the colours, maybe tried some Dungeons & Dragons themed flavours, anything to change them up a bit to fit the theme. Maybe make some of them silver like they were wearing armour. I don’t really know what would work and what wouldn’t, but I feel like doing nothing isn’t the best option.

In some ways when a candy company decorates a box and has a free contest, but gives me the same candy, they’re just trying to trick me into eating the same candy twice. Candy to me is a fun exploration of fun flavours and weird ideas, exploring new concepts and textures. I don’t often buy the same candy twice, but this box of Nerds kind of tricked me into doing just that.
